Janet’s vibrant paintings capture the liveliness and atmosphere of a place. There is a sense of energy in her strokes which renders life “out there” as well as within herself…sort of a communion. Whether she is painting clouds, water, trees or people – her attention is on the way light touches each form in a beautiful way, and on the patterns that are created by light and shadow.
Janet received her BFA from the University of Kansas, where she discovered the challenges of painting “plein air” painting. She has always been inspired by the Dutch, French and California landscape artists, as well as Asian painting. Janet developed her own style further at the Art Students League of Denver. She loves using the vibrant medium of pastels, often employing underwashes, textures and layers of color to express her vision.
Though Janet has taken many painting trips throughout Europe, she is still captivated by the graceful beauty of the Northwest, where she has lived for over 20 years. Exhibited nationally and collected internationally, Janet’s work has won many awards. She teaches weekly painting classes in her Everett studio and gives occasional workshops at various locations.
