Two-day pastel workshops at the Whatcom Museum in Bellingham, WA:
Beginning Pastel: 9 am -4 pm Jan. 23 & 24 Intermediate Pastel
This class is for returning students or those who have had previous experience with pastels. It will
include demonstrations and much individual attention. We will have fun experimenting with some
different techniques and subject matter. Students can bring their own photos to work from, or use
some of mine. Still lives may be set up as well. As always, emphasis will be on understanding values,
color harmonies and composition in order to learn effective, expressive painting! Beginning Pastel (experienced pastellists are welcome too)
This class will introduce students to the vibrant, versatile medium of pastels. Emphasis will be on
understanding values, color harmonies and composition in order to learn effective, expressive
painting. This enjoyable class will be for beginners in pastel, though some previous drawing
experience is recommended. We will experiment with a variety of techniques (such as layering color
and “underwashes”) as well as exploring different the paper surfaces made for pastel. Please indicate whether you are a beginner or have worked in pastels before. Information will be sent to you whenever new sessions of classes or workshops are planned.
